ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND
Globally, it is estimated that approximately 185 million people are infected with HCV and 350,000
of them died each year. Also there are 240 million persons living with chronic HBV infection and
650,000 of them died every year. Today in Mongolia, It is reported that 113782 and 201387 people
are infected with HCV and HBV respectively.
Staging of hepatic fibrosis is essential prior to HCV and HBV treatment. Liver biopsy has long
been the golden standard for grading of hepatic fibrosis but it is invasive method and can have
capable risk of death (0.03-3%). There is thus a need for accurate noninvasive methods of
measuring the degree of liver fibrosis. For many counties, proposed approaches include transient
elastography which based on ultrasound, routine biochemical and hematologic tests and surrogate
serum fibrosis markers (APRI , FIB-4, FT ). However equipment of transient elastography are
expensive. Therefore it is recommended that APRI and FIB-4 index should be used instead of
elastography to determine fibrosis stage in resource – limited countries. With we have categorized
into resource limited countries, we have needs to further investigate these noninvasive methods.
OBJECTIVES
The aim of this study was to assess the performance of FibroScan in patients with chronic liver
disease associated with HCV and HBV, in comparison with APRI as well as FIB-4 index by
evaluating its specificity and sensitivity.
METHODS
Overall, consecutive 100 patients with chronic HCV and HBV infection and alanine
aminotransferase levels ≤ 2 х ULN were randomly chosen and prospectively studied at the
Department of Gastroenterology of the First Central Hospital. We have control group include 100
